This EOR Gambia shortlist covers 10 providers in a single list, each with its base, its service scope, and the point where it stands apart. Expect to request quotes, since none of them post a price. Contracts are written in English under common law, which makes The Gambia simpler on paper than its French-speaking neighbors.

Hiring in The Gambia: What the Rules Demand

The World Bank calls The Gambia the smallest country on mainland Africa. It is a narrow strip along the Gambia River, wrapped by Senegal on 3 sides and open to the Atlantic. Banjul is the capital, and the Greater Banjul Area, which includes Serrekunda, holds most business activity. English is the official language, and the law follows common law. The currency is the Gambian dalasi (GMD), and the country is part of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Tourism, groundnut farming, fisheries, re-export trade, and remittances drive the economy.

About 2.8 million people live there, and World Bank figures for 2025 show GDP of $2.6 billion and real growth of 5.9%. Remittances equaled about 22% of GDP in 2024. Hotels, customer support teams drawn by English speakers, fisheries, farming, builders, and NGOs do most of the hiring. Around 40% of people are under 15, and formal jobs concentrate around Banjul and Serrekunda. A Gambia employer of record lets a foreign company hire there without registering a local entity.

An employer of record in The Gambia is an outside company that legally employs staff for a foreign client. The client still runs day-to-day operations. Under the Labor Act 2023, that means a written English contract and a statement of particulars within 14 working days. The provider also registers staff with the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) and runs a payroll. It pays into the National Provident Fund (NPF) and the Industrial Injuries Compensation Fund (IICF). Pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) tax goes to the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA).

The 10 providers that follow sit in one list instead of tiers. Most serve The Gambia from elsewhere in Africa or beyond, and each Provider Type line shows where a firm is based. Under the Employer of Record model, a first hire can start while company registration is still pending.

INSIGHT: What does a Gambian employer actually pay on top of salary?

The employer load is modest. Still, 2 of the 3 numbers use different bases, and one is capped, so a single percentage never tells the whole story.

  • NPF: the employer pays 10% and the employee 5%, both on basic salary, by the 15th of the following month (SSHFC, checked October 2026).
  • IICF: 1% of total earnings, meaning basic salary plus fixed allowances. The employer pays it alone, capped at GMD 15 per employee per month (SSHFC).
  • Combined, the employer pays 10% of basic salary plus at most GMD 15 a month per worker. The 2 parts are calculated on different bases (National Audit Office).
  • PAYE applies to employment income above GMD 36,000 a year (GMD 3,000 a month). The 2025 budget set that threshold, and the GRA collects the tax (GRA, checked October 2026).

What Is the Best EOR Option in The Gambia?

Only 1 provider on this roster is based in the country: Gamjobs Limited in Old Yundum. A second, Rakes HR Africa, runs a branch on Kairaba Avenue. A Gambia EOR with people on the ground should know which SSHFC scheme applies. It should also know how quickly written particulars are due, so test both before you sign.

Africa-wide platforms trade local depth for one dashboard, uniform paperwork and the same standard in every market. That helps when The Gambia sits next to Senegal, Ghana or Nigeria in a regional plan. English-language contracts also remove the translation step that most surrounding markets add.

Whatever the type, ask each candidate 5 questions and request written answers. Whose company appears on the contract as employer, and is it the provider’s own? Under which SSHFC scheme will the hire sit, who meets the contract and registration deadlines, and who handles a permit for a non-ECOWAS hire? Finally, does it hold a certificate of exemption from the Commissioner of Labor? The Labor Act 2023 treats firms that supply workers to a client as labor-only sub-contractors (s. 70 to 73). None of the 10 publishes a rate, so a written quote plus these replies form the comparison.

INSIGHT: Which social security scheme does your Gambian hire fall under?

The SSHFC runs more than one scheme, and employer contributions differ between them. At least one published guide adds 2 of them together as though an employer pays both.

  • The SSHFC manages the Federated Pension Scheme (FPS), the NPF, the IICF and a housing fund. Pension coverage comes from either the FPS or the NPF (National Audit Office).
  • NPF, the shared-cost scheme for most private employers: 10% employer and 5% employee on basic salary (SSHFC).
  • FPS, the alternative for parastatals and private employers willing to pay the full amount: 15% of gross salary, all from the employer (SSHFC). It replaces the NPF; it does not add to it.
  • The SSHFC site publishes no fixed registration deadline after hire. Ask each provider when it registers new staff, and under which scheme (checked October 2026).

10 Providers Offering Gambia EOR Services

Every firm here says it employs, acts as EOR or runs payroll for staff in The Gambia. I checked 4 things first: dalasi payroll, SSHFC registration with ongoing contributions, English contracts under the Labor Act 2023, and PAYE filed with the GRA. Permit handling for non-ECOWAS hires and pricing transparency counted as well.

Here is how I framed each employer of record: The Gambia’s own rules came first, then the provider’s claims. Most firms reach the country from elsewhere, and none posts a rate. The roster came from the Anywherer team, which also checked it; it wasn’t pulled from search results.

INSIGHT: How to compare providers when nobody publishes a price

With no public Gambia pricing on this list, wait until every quote splits its costs into the same lines before you compare.

  • Anchor the comparison on the statutory load. That is 10% of basic salary to the NPF plus up to GMD 15 a month for the IICF (SSHFC, checked October 2026).
  • Ask for the management fee, statutory pass-through, permit costs, and any currency conversion charge as separate lines. Non-ECOWAS hires also trigger a GMD 50,000 yearly payroll tax (GRA).
  • Get the legal name of whoever will employ your staff. Hiring through a partner is a different arrangement from hiring through a firm’s own Banjul company.
  • Ask which SSHFC scheme the provider uses and at what rate. That answer moves the employer cost more than most fee gaps.

Providers appear in A-to-Z order. The sequence says nothing about quality, preference, or ranking.

Senegal wraps around The Gambia on 3 sides, so my Senegal EOR guide is the natural companion. For an anglophone peer with similar contracts, see my notes on an employer of record in Ghana. Teams growing into West Africa’s largest economy can turn to my Nigeria EOR services page. Running an EOR in Gambia next to Senegal still means 2 rulebooks, with different languages, legal traditions, currencies, and social security systems.

What to Know About EOR Gambia: FAQs

Which labor rules matter most when hiring in The Gambia?

The Labor Act 2023 replaced the Labor Act 2007. Every employee needs a written contract, a statement of particulars within 14 working days, and 48 hours to review the contract. Probation is capped at 12 months for skilled, 6 for semi-skilled and 3 for unskilled staff. Monthly-paid staff get 1 month’s notice, and redundancy requires 6 months’ notice.

Which SSHFC scheme does an employer contribute to?

Most private employers use the National Provident Fund, paying 10% of basic salary while the employee adds 5%. Employers willing to fund the whole pension can instead join the Federated Pension Scheme at 15% of gross pay. These are alternatives, as the SSHFC explains. The injuries fund adds 1% of total earnings, capped at GMD 15 a month.

Is there a minimum wage in The Gambia?

The Labor Act 2023 sets no national minimum wage, and pay floors come from Joint Industrial Council agreements for each sector. A rate of GMD 50 a day from 2015 is widely quoted. Still, I could not find an official order confirming it remains in force. No new national rate had been enacted by October 2026.

Do foreign hires need a work permit?

Yes. Every non-citizen needs a residence permit with work rights (Permit B) from the Immigration Department, plus an expatriate quota approved by the labor ministry. ECOWAS citizens can apply after 90 days in the country and non-ECOWAS citizens after 56 days. Employers also pay a yearly payroll tax of GMD 10,000 for ECOWAS staff or GMD 50,000 for others.

How do I choose between these providers?

Ask whether the provider employs through its own Gambian company and which SSHFC scheme it uses, and at what rate. Confirm it meets the 14-day deadline for written particulars and handles revenue authority filings. Finally, weigh permit support against a quote broken into fee, statutory pass-through, and permit costs, because no firm here posts a price.
